Daily bible reading 10/24/2023

 October 24, 2023

Hello everyone, today's reading is from the book of Luke, chapter 12, verse 35-38:

"Jesus said to his disciples: "Gird your loins and light your lamps and be like servants who await their master's return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.""

As the night carries on, hour after hour, awaiting the master to come back, these servants get tired, they get bored staring off at the empty night. They know that it's their duty to stay watch but it definitely seems like a long, dreadful, and boring task. Hours of standing vigilants and awaiting his return. I can say that we tend to be in the exact same boat as these servants. We'll never know when God will arrive for his final judgment. We need to stay holy and faithful for the time that God makes his arrival. It's way easier said than done. It would be so much easier to sit down, or step off duty to do something fun, same way, it would be much easier and pleasurable to just sin. We must remember that if our King finds us sinful and unprepared for his arrival then we'll have to face eternal hell as punishment. Constantly being in prayer and following God's law won't always be the most pleasant thing to do for our flesh, but we must recall this reading to remind us why we are sacrificing so much. Don't be the servant who is sleeping when the King arrives. Stay strong my brothers, God will reward us for our sacrifice when he arrives.
